Directions to the Eagle’s Nest from Calais
From Calais, take the A26 and follow signs to Paris, joining the A1 south of Bethune. On the approach to Paris, follow the signs around the outer péripherique to Bordeaux/Nantes—this keeps you off the main inner péripherique, which can get very busy. Don’t worry about road numbers, just watch those Bordeaux/Nantes signs! This will take you round to the east and south of Paris, and eventually you will join the A10.
Follow the A10 and then signs to Orléans, to the junction with the A71, which you take, now following signposts to Clermont-Ferrand. Follow this on south until this autoroute again changes to the A75, south of Clermond, now following signs for Montpellier.
Keep going! Follow the A75 to junction 34, and come off on the N106, heading south to Mende. Come down into Mende then pick up the N88, signposted Le Puy-en-Velay.
Continue along the N88 until you get to the junction with the D901, signposted to Le Bleymard and Bagnols-les-Bains. Take this road through to Le Bleymard and turn onto the D20, opposite the Hôtel La Remise, signposted Mont Lozère, Station du ski, etc.
Follow this road up the mountain, arriving at the ski station after about 10 minutes—there is a large obvious car park on the left-hand side, where the road flattens out and takes a very sharp right-hand bend.
Continue on past the ski station, up and over the Col de Finiels (1541m) and over to the south side of Mont Lozère. Carry on for a few kilometres, and as you round the bend the Eagle’s Nest centre comes into view—it is the large building highest on the mountain side. Come down the road and turn up our drive on the left, with a clearly visible sign of an eagle. If you get to the village of Finiels, you have gone too far!
Directions to the Eagle’s Nest from Lyon
Come around/through Lyon to pick up the A47 at Givors, heading East to St Etienne. Follow the A47, then the N88 from St Etienne (directions to Le Puy), and continue following the N88 through Le Puy, and onwards towards Mende.
Continue following the N88, which means taking a right hand turn towards Pradelles and Langogne.
Follow this road up the mountain, arriving at the ski station after about 10 minutes—there is a large obvious car park on the left hand side, where the road flattens out and takes a very sharp right hand bend.
Pull onto this car park—Le Refuge is the first building on the left hand side (where the hotel is) and immediately behind that is Les Zepis, where the main student accommodation is found. Beep your horn if you can’t see me, I will be waiting for you!
Directions to the Eagle’s Nest from Nîmes Airport
Leave the airport complex and at the first main roundabout take the first left towards the autoroute (A54), signposted Montpellier, etc. Join the peage (toll road) and take the right turn for Montpellier. Follow the autoroute for about 8km, and take the exit for Alès. Come off the autoroute and up to the main roundabout on the outskirts of Nîmes (you’ll see a huge Carrefour supermarket on this corner), and go straight on, following signs for Alès. This is the D106.
Follow the D106 all the way to Alès (about 40km), it is dual carriageway for most of the last 30km. When this comes to an end at a roundabout on arriving in Alès, take the first exit (right) off this roundabout, following signs for Aubenas. Follow the Alès ring road all the way (straight on at every roundabout), eventually picking up signs for Mende. When you see the first sign for Génolhac, stick with it! This will take you off the ring road at a large roundabout with a mine winch-wheel in the middle of it—second exit off this roundabout, taking you through the village of Saint-Martin-de-Valgalgues (the D906).
Follow the D906 through Laval, Le Pradel, Portes and in La Tavernoles, take the left-hand turn signposted Le Pont de Montvert (D52). Follow this all the way to Pont (about 30km and a very winding road with spectacular views), but don’t go right into the village centre—after you pass a small garage on the left watch out for the turn on the right signposted Mont Lozère, Le Bleymard, etc. This is the D20. Follow this road up the valley, and you will get views of the Eagle’s Nest at the head of the valley. Continue through the villages of Prat Souteyran and Finiels, and 1km after Finiels, the centre driveway appears on your left. Come on up!

The N88 turns off to the right, just before Pradelles, follow this and continue along until you get to the junction with the D901, signposted to Le Bleymard, and Bagnols-les-Bains. Take this road through to Le Bleymard (pass the sewage works on your right) and turn onto the D20, opposite the Hôtel La Remise, signposted Mont Lozère, Station du ski, etc.
Follow this road up the mountain, past the ski station, up and over the Col de Finiels, and down the south side of the mountain. Watch out for the turn off to the centre on your right, about 4km after the Col. If you get to Finiels village you have gone too far!
